Wilson Continues to Work for an Office of Public Integrity January 12, 2007

Bipartisan Legislation Would Create Independent Review of Ethics Complaints

Washington, DC –Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced she has joined Reps. Martin Meehan (D-MA) and Christopher Shays (R-CT) to reintroduce legislation (H.R. 422) that would create an Office of Public Integrity for the U.S. Congress.

“I support creating a nonpartisan Office of Public Integrity,” said Wilson, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “When individual members appear to have broken the rules, they should be investigated by an independent professional. We need a nonpartisan office that can investigate allegations of wrongdoing. Federal agencies have Inspectors General and the executive branch has an Office of Public Integrity. The Congress should be able to police its own members.”
