Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today said that the economy is clearly picking up the pace but that job creation remains the priority.
Wilson discussed economic growth at the Edgewood Chamber of Commerce luncheon and took questions from members. Wilson has toured a number of businesses recently in the First Congressional District, and said she continues to hear reports of new jobs.
“The economy’s report card for last quarter was an ‘A ’ and we’re looking for more good grades as jobs are created,” Wilson said. “I’m already hearing encouraging reports from all over the area as I tour the small businesses that make our economy work.”
Last week, economic reports were upgraded to a blistering 8.2 percent growth rate, the highest in nearly two decades and the latest in a series of encouraging economic news. New Mexico is out front, ranking second in job creation according to UNM economists.
“Businesses and entrepreneurs always face challenges, but owners are reporting that they’ve weathered the slowdown and are seeing new growth,” Wilson said. “Now we have to keep at it until everyone who wants work can find a job. Government must maintain a climate for growth with sound policies like low taxes, fair regulations and integrity in boardrooms.”
