Wilson Gets Reauthorization For South Valley Flood Relief May 05, 1999

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced that assistance to address flooding in Bernalillo County's South Valley has been reauthorized in the Water Resources Development Act of 1999 (WRDA). The legislation, HR 1480 passed the House of Representatives on April 29 by a vote of 418-5 and now awaits consideration in the United States Senate. Funding in the bill will continue to allow the Corps of Engineers to complete a study of the flood plain.

In addition, the reauthorization will make implementation of the project a top priority for the Corps of Engineers. The project stretches fifteen miles along the Rio Grande River from south of Albuquerque to the Isleta Pueblo Reservation.

"Flooding in the South Valley has continued to cause extensive damage to both private and public property," Congresswoman Wilson said. "I have requested the reauthorization in this year's WRDA to continue the process of a well thought out solution."
