Wilson Announces Federal Funding for NM July 14, 2004

>$2.9 Million for Disaster Repairs at Albuquerque Treatment Plant
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced $2.9 million in federal funding for New Mexico to repair flood damage at the Albuquerque treatment plant. The money is allocated through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which has obligated over $2.9 million to the state of New Mexico to fund repairs of disaster storm damage at the Albuquerque sewer treatment facility in early April. “Maintaining major infrastructure is important to Albuquerque’s growth,” Wilson said. Flood waters on April 3 caused sewer line breaks near Broadway and Central and deposited an estimated 4,524 cubic yards of sand and gravel in the wastewater treatment plant and damaging equipment. The total repair cost at the facility was estimated at more than $3.8 million. This federal funding provides 75 percent of eligible costs with the remaining 25 percent from state and local resources. Under the FEMA Public Assistance Program, the state of New Mexico administers the funding to provide essential governmental services, such as emergency protective measures, debris removal and restoration of public facilities.
