Application can downloaded from Wilson's website and must be submitted by Oct 19, 2007
Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced the deadline for students to submit their service academy nomination packets to Rep. Wilson this year. The deadline is October 19, 2007 and students can download the application from Wilson’s website.
Wilson says the application is comprehensive, and students should get started today.
“Education opens doors of opportunity in life,” Wilson said. “I want to encourage students to plan for the future, and the service academies are a great start each year for a select group of students from Congressional District 1. It’s a highlight of my year to nominate some of our brightest young minds for potential admission to the military academies.”
“The process is very competitive, and it’s important to begin preparing early to earn admission,” Wilson noted. “If you make the cut, you’ll get an excellent education and a chance to serve your country.”
“There’s only one way to get a service academy nomination from me: you have to earn it. I nominate students based on merit,” says Wilson, who graduated in the third Air Force Academy class to accept women. “Good grades and test scores, participation in athletics and extracurricular activities, good character and leadership experience in High School, and a strong motivation to serve your country in uniform are all things I consider when making nominations.”
Wilson is the only Air Force Academy graduate elected to Congress, as well as the only female veteran currently serving in Congress.
