Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today highlighted the role of small businesses in the growing economy.
Wilson participated in today’s Economic Growth Tour in Albuquerque with the Small Business Administration. The day’s events included a tour of Roses Southwest Papers, Inc., and a roundtable with small business owners at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
“I welcome today’s focus on Albuquerque’s small businesses,” Wilson said. “Small businesses are the engine driving our economic recovery and creating jobs.”
“During my visits to businesses I’ve been encouraged to hear that owners are upbeat and seeing growth,” Wilson said. “Now we have to stay focused until every New Mexican who wants to work can find a job.”
New Mexico was sixth in the nation last year with 1.3 percent growth in jobs. The national economy is projected to continue growing following estimates of a solid fourth quarter, and a near-record third quarter.
“Small businesses grow from someone’s dream, and each faces unique challenges along the way, but they are the backbone of our economy,” Wilson said. “Government can’t create this wealth, but with sound policies like low taxes, fair regulations and integrity in boardrooms, America can have a climate in which these businesses flourish.” |
