Wilson Touts Growth at New Mexico Company November 07, 2003

Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today joined Fiore Industries CEO Bill Miera to announce a major new $30 million defense contract for the Albuquerque business. Fiore Industries, a New Mexico Research and Development Engineering firm, has been awarded a Department of Defense contract to support the Center for Countermeasures, located at White Sands Missile Range. “If the government elects to exercise all the contract options, the value of the contract could potentially exceed $30 million,” said Felix Sanchez, president of Fiore Industries. “New Mexico excels at creating high-tech jobs, and Fiore Industries’ announcement today is a great example of bringing and keeping good jobs here,” Wilson said. “Congratulations to Fiore Industries for adding to our New Mexico tradition of contributing to our national defense.” Fiore Industries will lead a project team which includes Georgia Tech Research and SAIC Test Group. Fiore Industries was founded in 1989 by Bill Miera, a New Mexico native, and has both government and private contracts. The Center for Countermeasures is a DOD agency based at White Sands, that acts to countermeasure enemy countermeasures, along with providing test and analysis capabilities. “The 15-year potential of this award translates into job security for New Mexicans working in this high-tech field,” Miera said. “We’re very pleased to have this role in protecting our troops through technology.” “Once again, a New Mexico small business is helping to build our state, job by job,” Wilson said. “Our economy is growing, and 13,000 jobs have been created in New Mexico over the past year.”
