Sandoval County Vietnam Veterans Honored November 11, 2006

Wilson Speaks at Unveiling of Memorial
Bernalillo, NM – Speaking today at the unveiling of the Sandoval County Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Congresswoman Heather Wilson thanked and honored those who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War. “New Mexicans have always answered the country’s call to serve,” Wilson said. “One of every ten New Mexicans is a veteran. This monument is a fitting and lasting reminder of the veterans from Sandoval County who served in Vietnam.” The memorial, built on the north side of the Sandoval County Courthouse, honors both surviving veterans and those who died at war. Nearly 400 New Mexicans did not return from Vietnam, and many more served. Veterans, families and officials participated in the ceremony today in Bernalillo. Veterans or family members looking for information on medals and veterans issues can visit http://wilson.house.gov or call Rep. Wilson’s office at (505) 346-6781.
