HEALTHY New MexiKIDS February 06, 2002

New MexiKIDS is no cost or low cost health care coverage for New Mexicans under 19 years old. The income limits for a family to qualify for coverage under New MexiKIDS is different than for Medicaid, so if your children don’t have health coverage and you think you don’t qualify, it’s important for you to call, anyway.

For more information or to find out if your children are eligible, call this toll free number: (888) 997-2583. This number will connect callers to the New MexiKIDS hotline.

WHAT IS NEW MexiKIDS?
New MexiKIDS is no cost or low cost health coverage for children under 19 years old. If your household income is less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, health care services are provided to your child at no cost. If your household income is between 185% - 235% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, some of the health care services your child receives may require that you make a co-payment at the time each service is provided.

No or Low Cost Health Coverage for Kids
1-888-997-2583

Preventive services, such as Tot to Teen Health Checks and immunizations do not require a co-payment. New MexiKIDS pays for regular check-ups, doctor visits, dental visits, hospital care, prescriptions, glasses and hearing and vision exams. Other services may be covered if they are medically necessary.

APPLYING FOR New MexiKIDS
You can apply for New MexiKIDS at most clinics, hospitals, primary care providers and schools. You can also visit your local Income Support Division office. Or you can call the New MexiKIDS toll-free hotline at 1-888-997-2583 for more information.

Once your child is formally approved for this health coverage, he or she is eligible for 12 months of coverage, regardless of any changes in family income.

HELP MAKE CERTAIN ELIGIBLE CHILDREN GET COVERED!
It is estimated that there are still several thousand children in New Mexico who are eligible for the New MexiKIDS program but are not enrolled. It is the goal of the New Mexico Human Services Department to enroll all eligible children into the New MexiKIDS program.

The Department has conducted four aggressive television and radio marketing campaigns as well as a grass roots consumer education and outreach marketing strategy to enroll children. If you would like to help us in our outreach activities, please call 1-888-997-2583 and ask to speak to a member of the Consumer Education and Outreach Team to find out how you can help.
