Dear Friends:
I am pleased to announce the 24th Annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. This high school art competition and display has been a tradition in the First Congressional District for the last ten years. I need your help to encourage student artists to participate in An Artistic Discovery.
Highlights Based upon feedback from teachers and students we have moved the date of the competition to earlier in the year to reduce conflicts with end of the year activities and with other art shows. Entries will be accepted Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday April 13, 14 & 15 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Congressional office-20 First Plaza NW, Suite 603 (Copper & 2nd/3rd Streets). The artwork will be on display April 18-29. The Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held Monday, April 25 in the early evening at First Plaza-Galeria Building. For student artists involved with the Metro Show, these dates enable you to participate in both shows.
Student Release Form Each year, members of the U.S. House of Representatives join together to showcase the talent of high school students. The creative energies of New Mexico’s students are boundless, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to recognize and encourage their talent.
Mary Ann Weems has agreed to serve as the Chairperson for the Competition. As in previous years, a panel of judges will select Best of Show, as well as 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and other award winning pieces. The Best of Show will be sent to Washington, D.C to be proudly displayed in a corridor that leads from my House Office to the U.S. Capitol. I look forward to pointing out the winning piece from New Mexico’s First District to my colleagues. The other award winning pieces of art will be displayed in my Albuquerque Congressional Office for the enjoyment of visitors.
Enclosed are fliers with guidelines and information about An Artistic Discovery. Thank you in advance for your help in distributing this information to students who may be interested in participating. Please do not hesitate to contact Christina Siler or Julie Dreike in my Albuquerque Office at 346-6781 with any questions.
I sincerely thank you for your support of New Mexico’s aspiring artists and your efforts to make this a successful event.
Sincerely,
|
