Wilson, Energy Secretary Abraham to Talk about Education Initiative October 14, 2004

Program Promotes Math and Science
Albuquerque – Congresswoman Heather Wilson and U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham will hold a press conference tomorrow at Sandia National Laboratories to talk about an education initiative that focuses on math and science. The Department of Energy is sponsoring the STARS (Scientists Teaching And Reaching Students) program. The recently unveiled initiative aims at improving student achievement in science and math. “Our future scientists start out as students. This initiative is a great way to help kids understand the doors that knowledge will open for them," Wilson said. The program includes showcasing cutting edge technology and interesting research to inspire students to consider related careers, and works for more training of math and science teachers.
