Wilson Brings A Little of New Mexico to Troops January 14, 2005

Albuquerque Merchants and Organizations Donate Gifts for Soldiers throughout U.S.

"The Balloon Fiesta board is proud to do our part in supporting our troops and helping Congresswoman Wilson bring a little taste of New Mexico to those who defend our freedom," says Rod May, Board President of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. "And nothing says New Mexico more than images of hot air balloons floating over New Mexico`s horizon. Our service men and women serve everyday to defend our freedom, and we`re grateful to them."

Ft. Bliss, TX – Congresswoman Heather Wilson traveled to Ft. Bliss, Texas, to visit troops stationed there in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Wilson’s visit comes as part of a nine Member Congressional delegation touring several bases and military installations throughout the nation.

Wilson sought to bring troops a taste of her home state, and with the help of New Mexico merchants and organizations, Wilson did just that.

“The hard-working members of our military honor us with their service,” says Wilson.  “New Mexico as a community is very generous and I want to thank the organizations that gave freely so that our soldiers can have a taste of our state, and so that we can honor our soldiers, even if just briefly.  A salsa or chile packet in the field can make all the difference to a soldier eating an MRE.  And hockey and UNM Lobo shirts, and trinkets like state pins, will be welcome reminders that New Mexicans appreciate their service.”

Thank you to each business or organization which donated to our troops on this visit.
