Wilson Encourages Cuomo To Release Funding December 17, 1999

WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced that the Wheels Museum funding in the VA-HUD appropriations bill is moving it's way through the bureaucratic process and will shortly be available. The project will add to the revitalization of downtown Albuquerque. "Bernalillo County and the Wheels Foundation will use the funding as soon as it becomes available to plan and design the Wheels Museum. There was a pressing need to expedite the process, and I'm glad I was able to help," Wilson said. "My office continues to shepard the funding of both the Wheels Museum and the Albuquerque Little Theatre so it will be received as soon as possible." Bernalillo County will act as an oversight and pass through organization for the $300,000 that will be used for a feasibility study, business plan and preliminary design work for the world class and transportation museum. The museum's board is continuing their efforts to buy the 27 acre site from Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway. When completed the $30 million project will be a year-round attraction. Wilson requested that the House appropriators set aside $300,000 from the Economic Development Initiative funds reserved for allocation by House members for the Wheels Museum. Once secured, she informed the Wheels museum on October 11 that the funds had been reserved for the project.
