Wilson Urges Preservation of Highway Funds for NM |
January 25, 2007 |
|
Albuquerque, NM - Congresswoman Heather Wilson today released a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Appropriations urging preservation of important federal funding for highways in New Mexico.
The text of the letter is below:
The Honorable David Obey Chairman Committee on Appropriations H-218, The Capitol Washington D.C. 20515
The Honorable Jerry Lewis Ranking Member Committee on Appropriations H-218, The Capitol Washington, DC 20515
Dear Chairman Obey and Ranking Member Lewis,
I urge you to ensure that the full-year Continuing Resolution for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 provides the FY2007 Federal highway, transit, and highway safety funding levels guaranteed in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
Nationally, if the Continuing Resolution is not adjusted, SAFETEA-LU’s highway, transit, and highway safety investment will be cut by $4 billion. This will translate to approximately 192,000 jobs being lost.
In my home state of New Mexico, we face a devastatingly similar trend. If the Continuing Resolution is not adjusted, SAFETEA-LU’s highway, transit, and highway safety investment in New Mexico will be cut by $27.8 million. This will translate into approximately 1,323 good paying jobs New Mexicans will lose.
The FY 2007 SAFETEA-LU funding level is essential to meeting New Mexico’s and our nation’s surface transportation infrastructure needs. Thank you for your consideration of the important issue.
Sincerely,
Heather Wilson Member of Congress
