Washington, DC—Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert has appointed Congresswoman Heather Wilson to serve on the House of Representatives Page Board. The Page Board oversees the House Page School, which provides juniors in high school the opportunity to receive a first hand experience of the inner workings of the United States Congress.
“I enjoy working with young people and I look forward to helping supervise the Page School,” said Wilson. “The House Page School is an incredible opportunity for high school students to continue their school work and get a unique perspective on the inner-workings of the Congress.”
The Congressional Page Program offers three separate sessions: two summer sessions
(June - July or July - August) and an academic year (September - June). The Congressional Page Program is administered by the Office of the Clerk and is overseen by a board consisting of three members of Congress. Congressional Pages are employees of the House of Representatives and do not work for a specific Member of Congress.
Page eligibility is limited to juniors in high school only. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time their appointment begins and have a cumulative grade point average of a "B" or better ("B" is a 3.0 or 85/100). Applicants also need a letter of sponsorship from their Congressional representative.
To be considered for the Congressional Page program, you should submit a written request to Wilson’s Albuquerque office that includes:
* Signed statement of parental consent
* Official high school transcript
* 50-100 word essay on why you want to be a Congressional Page
* Resume
* Three letters of recommendation
As part of Congresswoman Wilson’s commitment to education and community service she also has a college and high school internship program for her office. Over 30 students have worked in the District and Washington offices, 6 college students and 18 high school students.
