Wilson says Flawed Medicare Formula fixed
|
Last July, Rep. Heather Wilson promised to fix a flawed Medicare formula that threatened coverage for thousands of New Mexico seniors. This December, Rep. Wilson delivered on that promise.
The Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act passed on December 19, 2007 included a fix for inpatient rehabilitation hospitals supported by Wilson. The provision permanently fixes the arbitrary Medicare “75% Rule” by creating a permanent “60% Rule,” allowing patients who need intensive rehabilitation services in a hospital after a stroke or brain injury to have access to these services.
HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital and Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital in Albuquerque, and San Juan Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Farmington, are affected by this regulation and told Wilson the Rule was limiting their ability to accept patients in need of rehabilitation.
Wilson cosponsored legislation, H.R. 1459, to correct this problem. That language was included in a larger Medicare package that Congress passed at the end of the 2007 Legislative year. |
