It’s about helping people… December 03, 2002

Dear Friends, People often ask what I like best in my job as a Member of Congress. My answer is always the same, and it’s very simple: the best part of my job is helping people.
Serving New Mexico in the U.S. House of Representatives is an honor, and it gives me a wonderful opportunity to meet people, hear their concerns, and often, do something to directly affect people’s lives. And that’s very satisfying. I have two offices, one in Washington, D.C. and one in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

"My
staff and I work very hard on behalf of people who are trying to cut through red tape in the federal government.
In Washington, I work on things like protecting Social Security or strengthening Medicare by adding a prescription drug benefit. Or changing immigration law to help keep families together while securing our borders, or making sure our country keeps the promises we’ve made to our veterans and those serving in uniform today during a very difficult period in our nation’s history. I’ve also worked to provide tax relief to working families in New Mexico, to create jobs, and to improve public education for all our kids. I CAN HELP YOU But my Albuquerque office probably works more closely with many of the people I represent, and offers direct assistance to people who have to deal in one way or another with the federal government. As with any large organization, federal agencies can make mistakes, paperwork can get lost, or people don’t understand the real problem. My staff and I work very hard on behalf of people who are trying to cut through red tape in the federal government. And we help a lot of people. Since I’ve been in office, I’ve helped thousands of people with various problems associated with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Veteran’s Administration, the Social Security Administration, or any of hundreds of smaller, lesser known agencies and organizations.

Kids at the YDI Centro de Amor Childcare Care Center learn about our U.S. Flag from their Rep. after she helped get the center a flag for their empty pole.

When I was elected to Congress, I joined four hundred and thirty four other representatives, from all fifty states and our five territories, and from different political parties. While we often disagree in Congress on how to accomplish various goals, I believe that most in Congress are there to improve America and do the right thing. We’re there to work for you, and I take that commitment and that role very seriously. CALL, WRITE, OR SURF If you think my office can help you, I hope you’ll call. Or, if you have an opinion about federal legislation, or anything you want me to know, please feel free to write.
I can be reached at (505) 346-6781, or 625 Silver Ave. SW, Suite 340 Albuquerque, NM 87102. You can also find out what I’m working on for New Mexicans by checking my Web site, or you can e-mail me to let me know what`s on your mind. Thank you for the honor of serving you in the United States Congress.
