Wilson Statement on Opposition to the Farm Bill
May 14, 2008
Washington, D.C. –
Congresswoman Heather Wilson issued the following statement today on her opposition to the Farm Bill:
“Changes to the dairy provisions in the Agriculture bill made in the conference committee disadvantage New Mexico dairy producers to such an extent that I cannot support the Agriculture bill in its current form. The provisions in the final Farm Bill weaken the protections under the Federal marketing order minimum pricing and provide additional price protection to other regions of the country that compete with New Mexico. The bill does more harm than good to the farmers here in New Mexico – a major part of our rural economy.”
