Albuquerque Man Presented with Purple Heart August 23, 2004

Wilson Presents Medal in Ceremony
Albuquerque – Army Lieutenant James Johnson waited 53 years for the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster that he earned in Korea. Congresswoman Heather Wilson today was privileged to present him with that medal. He also recently received the Korean War Medal. Then a 22-year-old Second Lieutenant, Johnson was wounded on the left arm and leg by shell and rock fragments during artillery fire. In another instance, Lt. Johnson received injuries from a nearby mortar round during an attack. Fortunately, the Colt 45 on his hip absorbed much of the impact and limited the severity of the wound. "I’m honored to recognize your dedication today,” Wilson said. “Millions of Koreans today live in freedom because of the service and sacrifice of you and your brothers-in-arms.”
