Statement on Colin McMillan`s passing |
July 25, 2003 |
|
Rep. Heather said the following last night after learning of Colin McMillan`s passing:
"I`m saddened by the news of Colin McMillan`s death. This is a terrible tragedy, and a great loss for New Mexico and for our nation. Colin served his country well. He was a Marine platoon leader at 22, and at 67 was poised to lead our nation`s Naval forces.
"He always encouraged his employees to get involved in their communities, and he did so himself. He served New Mexico as a Sunday school teacher, scout master, Little League coach and a fundraiser for community projects. And his kids will tell you he was a good father.
"As a top civilian leader in the Department of Defense during the first Bush Administration, Colin earned the respect and admiration of tough, hardened four-star generals and vice admirals. In fact, Colin earned the Department`s highest civilian award, the Medal for Distinguished Public Service.
"He will be missed."
