Wilson Announces Over $43 Thousand Awarded to the Valencia El Cerro Volunteer Fire Department September 19, 2002

Funding will be used for firefighting efforts and firefighter safety
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Valencia El Cerro Volunteer Fire Department a grant of $43,992 to help enhance firefighting efforts and improve safety for firefighters as they battle fires in the area. The funds come from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant program is designed to provide an opportunity for local fire departments to enhance basic fire service delivery and safety. “With the rash of wildfires we have seen this summer and in summers past, as well as other fire emergencies, we have learned about the challenges that firefighters face each day to protect us,” said Wilson. “These grants will help New Mexico’s fire departments acquire the tools they need to be able to do their jobs more safely and efficiently, and to keep the men and women who respond to emergencies safe.” --END--
