Wilson promotes New Mexico Native June 13, 2001

Enrique Knell becomes Communications Director

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced that she has promoted a long-time staff member into a senior management position. Wilson recently named Enrique Knell Communications Director in her congressional office.

“Enrique and I have worked together for more than five years. He has the experience to do the job well and I have confidence in him,” said Wilson. “Because I live in Albuquerque and spend more time in New Mexico than in Washington, it will be a real advantage to have someone of his ability with me here in Albuquerque.” Knell will continue to be based out of Albuquerque while traveling frequently to Washington and overseeing communications operations in both locations.

As Communications Director, Knell will serve as Wilson’s spokesman and is responsible for her relations with the news media. He will also have primary responsibility for maintaining Wilson`s Web site. Wilson has been recognized for her leadership on the Hill in utilizing the Internet and e-mail to serve her constituents. Knell takes the reins from Kevin McDermott, who is leaving her Washington, D.C. office to pursue a career in the private sector.

“I am excited about helping Congresswoman Wilson communicate with the people she represents, about the work she’s doing for us,” Knell said. “Heather has continued to provide me with opportunities to advance in her congressional office and it is an honor to serve her and my state as her communications director.”

A Las Vegas, New Mexico native, Knell previously worked for Wilson in the Children, Youth and Families Department and was also a key staff member in all three of Wilson’s election efforts. Knell has worked in radio, television, and in advertising. Most recently he served as Wilson’s Deputy Communications Director and prior to that was a constituent liaison in her Albuquerque office. In 1993, the Las Vegas Hispano Chamber of Commerce named Knell an “Outstanding Las Vegan.”

Reporters, editors, and producers who need information from Wilson’s office, or wish to interview her, should contact Knell in one of the following ways:
