Specter, English Highlight Federal Commitment to Job Creating Economic Initiatives
Pair Has Proven Track Records of Marrying Federal Funds with Critical Local Projects

Erie, Pa. Today, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) highlighted the federal government’s commitment to job creating economic initiatives in northwestern Pennsylvania.  Over the past 14 years, English and Specter have developed a strong partnership with state and local officials to bring federal resources to bear on the region’s top priorities.

“I have had the distinguished honor of working hand in hand with Senator Specter to ensure our region has access to the federal resources we need to help expand our local economy, create an environment in which our local employers can thrive and boost job growth throughout our region,” English said.  “I am proud to have led on bringing federal dollars back to remedy the Erie sewer system that helped create a swimmable bay, to make the small business incubator at the former Boys and Girls Club a reality, and to advance the runway extension which is a critical piece of infrastructure that will create jobs an opportunity in the region.”

As a Subcommittee Ranking Member on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Specter praised English’s work on behalf of Erie and stressed the importance of seniority in the congressional appropriations process.

“I am pleased to work with Congressman English to bring important federal funding to northwestern Pennsylvania,” Senator Specter said.  “With our combined seniority and commitment to the region, we will continue to advance local priorities.”

Despite tight fiscal restraints, English and Specter have long fought to ensure northwestern Pennsylvania receives its fair share of federal resources. Since being elected to Congress in 1994, English has brought back more than $150 million to Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District for local projects. Key local initiatives in Erie include:
