| Wilson Announces 29 New Mexico Counties Declared Disaster Areas Due to Drought |

Counties include Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Torrance and Valencia
Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has given 29 counties in New Mexico disaster designation because of the drought they have suffered since the beginning of the year. Included in this number are the five counties that make up the First Congressional District, which Wilson represents.
“New Mexico has suffered terribly this year because of the drought,” said Wilson. “We’ve seen tremendous wildfires and devastating crop losses. This designation is important for farmers and ranchers to get the assistance they need.”
The designation allows farm operators in and around these counties to become eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Services Agency (FSA). FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of the losses, security available, and repayment ability.
