O, Christmas Tree... |

As soon as our families gobble up some turkey this week, it`ll be time to start thinking about Christmas. If tradition calls for a fresh-cut tree to decorate during the holidays, the time is here.
Beginning Monday, November 19th, Christmas Tree permits will be available for sale over-the-counter at Forest Service offices throughout New Mexico. Christmas tree permits are available for personal use.
Some Yuletide Hints:
Plan ahead! There are a limited number of permits and some areas sell fast.
Dress warmly. Christmas tree cutting areas are normally 15 to 20 degrees cooler than your home area. Mountain weather can change quickly; be prepared.
Call the ranger station serving your cutting area for up-to-date road and weather conditions before your trip.
Drive safely and enjoy your quest for that perfect Christmas tree! |
Each household is allowed one tree and it may not exceed 10 feet in height.
For $10.00 and a bit of your own elbow-grease, your home can display a Pinon, Juniper, Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Blue Spruce, Engelmann, Sub-alpine Fir, or Southwestern White Pine (limber pine).
Though each household is limited to one permit, with correct names and addresses, up to four additional permits can be purchased for family or friends.
There is, however, no "sale-by-mail" program this year.
