A pair of high school students browse the art work currently on display in Albuquerque`s Winrock Mall. Students from throughout the 1st Congressional District entered the competition

The artwork is in! An Artistic Discovery 2001, the annual Congressional high school art competition, is now on display in a popular Albuquerque shopping center.

This year marks the 9th year students in New Mexico’s 1st District have participated in the competition, which has grown steadily in size and national recognition since its inception in 1993. This is the 3rd year that Heather serves as honorary chairperson for the event.

All of the artwork entered in the competition will be displayed in Winrock Mall from May 4 to May 22. An awards ceremony and reception will be held on Monday, May 14, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the mall.

The New Mexico entry judged Best of Show in the competition will be displayed in a corridor leading from Heather’s House office to the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC. First, second, and third place will be displayed in Wilson’s Albuquerque office. The winning artist will receive three tickets to fly to the nation’s capitol for a reception and the unveiling of student artwork from throughout the nation.

Additionally, the artists who win Best of Show and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will each receive a savings bond for $500, $400, $300, and $200, respectively.

Join Congresswoman Wilson and these talented young artists for a ceremony on Monday, May 14, 2001 at 6pm at the Winrock Mall. There, each of the winners will be revealed. Come support New Mexico`s talented high school artists.
