Statement by Congresswoman Wilson Regarding a House Vote on Torture Ban December 14, 2005

Washington, DC - The House today voted 308-122, with Wilson`s support, for a motion to instruct the House conferees on the 2006 Department of Defense Appropriations bill to recede to the Senate language proposed by Senator John McCain regarding torture. Congresswoman Heather Wilson issued the following statement: “American soldiers and interrogators must comply with the Convention on Torture, the requirements of U.S. law, and the Geneva Conventions. When we find people who break these laws, we investigate, prosecute and punish them. The rules need to be clear for our soldiers and interrogators, and those rules must apply wherever they are in the world.”
