Albuquerque’s Rapid Ride Receives $4.8 Million April 29, 2008

Federal Transit Administration awards grant for rapid bus transit

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Transportation today awarded $4.8 million to the Albuquerque Rapid Ride bus service. The funds will be used to expand service to residents throughout the downtown area.

“The Rapid Ride service has greatly expanded public transportation in Albuquerque, and I’m pleased they were awarded with this grant to continue to add to the services available to residents of the city,” Wilson said. “Rapid Ride continues to increase the number of riders each year, and serves as an alternative for residents looking to save money on fuel and vehicle costs.”

Rapid Ride operates 18 buses on two different lines within the city, in addition to late night service from Memorial Day through the end of September. Total ridership in fiscal year 2008 is expected to top two million riders.
