Wilson Works for Transportation Funds
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced that authorization for New Mexico transportation priorities passed through the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. At Wilson’s request, the Transportation Equity Act includes three highway reconstruction efforts in New Mexico.
“A good transportation network is an important peg of our economic growth efforts in New Mexico,” Wilson said. “Businesses can compete and create jobs when transportation issues are not in the way.”
Wilson requests authorized in the Transportation Equity Act are:
· $10 million for the Coors/I-40 Reconstruction Project in Albuquerque: The project for the second most-traveled highway intersection in New Mexico includes reconstruction of the mainline and ramps to provide more capacity for peak traffic hours.
· $2 million for I-25/Tramway Interchange: This project adds a traffic lane in each direction on I-25, auxiliary lanes between the Tramway and Alameda ramps, and widening and turn lanes on Tramway Road. Additionally, plans include improving sight distances, signage, signals and drainage. Congress appropriated $1.5 million in 2004.
· $2 million for Mesa del Sol Interchange: This would fund planning and design for a proposed interchange about 3.5 miles south of the Rio Bravo/I-25 Interchange to add access to the new development project.
