Nuclear Agency Consolidation Brings Jobs to Albuquerque and Los Alamos December 17, 2002

Albuquerque, NM - Wilson released the following statement today after the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) announcement of organizational changes. “I am encouraged to see the NNSA moving forward with its plans to streamline management of the labs, and I`m particularly pleased that this move will strengthen New Mexico`s role in national security and increase jobs in New Mexico. “This reorganization continues the process that we started with the creation of the NNSA more than two years ago. The Albuquerque office has long been the key office in implementing the weapons work of the DOE and the NNSA. The consolidation into the Albuquerque office highlights the capabilities and experience of the people working here.” In 1999 Congress passed both a reorganization of the Department of Energy and measures to strengthen the DOE counterintelligence program. Wilson, a member of both the House Armed Services Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee has met frequently with DOE and NNSA officials about the reorganization and its impact on New Mexico. -END-
