Wilson Announces Over $900 Thousand in Low-income Housing Grants Awarded to New Mexico Organizations August 13, 2002
 
Funding will provide affordable housing for needy New Mexico families
Albuquerque, NM -Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced that three organizations in the Albuquerque area have been awarded grants by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) totaling $907,237 to assist low-income families obtain safe and affordable housing and provide job training and placement assistance. The Bernalillo County Housing Authority has been awarded $305,063 for 63 Housing Choice Vouchers under the FY 2002 Fair Share Allocation of Incremental Housing Choice Vouchers Program. The City of Albuquerque Housing Services Department has been awarded $112,174 for 24 Housing Choice vouchers. HUD has also approved a $490,000 EDI Special Project Grant for the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce for construction of the Barelas Job Opportunity Center. “Having a decent place to live is one of the most basic human needs,” said Wilson. “The funds provided by the Housing Choice Vouchers Program will help some New Mexico families fulfill that need. And the Barelas Job Opportunity Center will become a great asset for our community.” --END--
