Wilson Recognized for Commitment to Jobs Growth March 10, 2005

Spirit of Enterprise Designation Based on Strong Voting Record

Albuquerque, NM - Congresswoman Heather Wilson today was recognized with the “Spirit of Enterprise” designation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for a track record of votes in 2004 that strengthen small businesses and promote job growth.

Wilson believes that we will continue seeing people hired by keeping taxes low and regulations fair for the small businesses that create nearly eight of every 10 new jobs in America. Wilson also works to support a transportation infrastructure that can accommodate growth, and today, the House passed

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last week that the growing U.S. economy created 262,000 new jobs in February, marking 21 consecutive months of job growth.

“America’s strong and growing economy has now created more than 3 million jobs since May 2003,” Wilson said. “By any economic measure, that is an expanding job market that means more opportunities for working Americans to build better lives for their families.”

Wilson supported legislation, signed into law October 4, 2004, which extended tax relief for 540,000 working New Mexicans, a child credit for 160,000 New Mexico couples and single parents, and a reduced marriage penalty for 185,000 New Mexico families.

Wilson regularly tours area businesses to meet with employees and small business owners to have firsthand information about the growth outlook in New Mexico.

In January, the most recent monthly data available, New Mexico had an unemployment rate of 5.2 percent. The national rate in February was 5.4 percent.
