Wilson Honors Korean War Veterans August 29, 2002

Presents local veterans with medals they earned for service in Korea
Albuquerque, NM --Congresswoman Heather Wilson held a ceremony today for a number of Korean War Veterans from Albuquerque who have never received the medal that they earned for serving in Korea. Wilson is an Air Force Academy graduate and the first woman veteran in American history to serve in the Congress. “They call Korea ‘the forgotten war.’ This ceremony is an opportunity to show that we didn`t forget,” said Wilson. In May of 2000, the Korean Defense minister announced that his government would provide the Republic of Korea War Service Medal to eligible U.S. veterans of that conflict, or their surviving kin. In commemoration of 50 years since the Korean War, ceremonies will be taking place across the nation during the next year to distribute these medals. Any veteran interested in finding out more about eligibility to receive the medal should contact Congresswoman Wilson`s office at 346-6781. -END-
