Wilson Doesn’t Believe GAO Report on Baca Ranch Will Stop Congressional Approval of Sale February 11, 2000

Hearings on legislation to authorize the sale anticipated to begin next month

WASHINGTON, DC -- Although a preliminary report from the General Accounting Office (GAO) indicates a wide discrepancy between their appraisal of the Baca Ranch and the purchase price agreed upon by Secretary of Agriculture Daniel Glickman and the Dunigan family, Congresswoman Heather Wilson remains confident legislation to authorize the sale will gain approval from Congress.

“There are often disagreements between appraisers of potential public lands,” said Wilson. “We will look at the GAO report, but I remain confident that the authorizing legislation will go forward. Yesterday, I discussed this report with Chairman Hansen (Jim Hansen, Chairman of the House Resources Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands) and members of the Interior Appropriations staff and I look forward to a thorough review this report when the hearings begin next month.”
