Wilson Organizes Briefing to Discuss Los Alamos Situation |

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Heather Wilson has organized a briefing by members of the intelligence community to discuss recent developments concerning the Cerro Grande Fire. Yesterday evening, Congresswoman Wilson was able to secure the use of federal assets that are normally used for national security be used to monitor Los Alamos for the purposes of assuring public health and safety.
Congresswoman Wilson has briefed the Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and the staff of the Majority Leader Dick Armey and they have asked her to keep them abreast of any new developments.
Additionally, Congresswoman Wilson is working with Congresswoman Barbara Cubin of Wyoming, John Shadegg of Arizona and Congressman Mac Thornberry of Texas to ensure that additional fire-fighting resources for New Mexico that are needed are made available if requested by officials in charge in New Mexico. Thus far, the Texas National Guard has sent a fire-fighting team with 4 helicopters and 8 trucks. Wilson has been told that C-130 fire-fighting planes are coming from Wyoming to help fight the fire.
In Albuquerque, Congresswoman Wilson staff has been communicating with Senator Domenici, Senator Bingaman and Congressman Udall’s office to lend any and all assistance possible. Congresswoman Wilson is planning to return to New Mexico as soon as legislative business is completed later this afternoon. She is presenting the Baca Authorization bill to the House Resources Committee at 2:00 PM EST.
Wilson is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as the Energy and Power Subcommittee of the House Commerce Committee. ### |
