Wilson Will Introduce Legislation to Save Rio Grande Water June 12, 2003

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that she will introduce legislation to overturn the controversial and precedent-setting decision by the 10th circuit court in Denver today that threatens New Mexico water rights for water flowing in the Rio Grande River.

"If this ruling is allowed to stand, it means that New Mexico cannot plan for our water future. This ruling would allow non-native water to be seized from the communities that spent millions of dollars to bring the water to cities in the west. I will introduce federal legislation to overturn the 10th circuit`s decision," Wilson said. "We need to protect the water rights of the people of New Mexico."
