Wilson Announces Funding Awarded to Two New Mexico Fire Departments December 19, 2002

Funding will be used to enhance local fire prevention programs
Albuquerque, NM-- Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded funding to the Albuquerque Fire Department and the Manzano Vista Fire Department in Los Lunas. The Albuquerque Fire Department will receive a federal grant of $386,400 and the Manzano Vista Fire Department will receive a grant of $36,000. In conjunction with state and local funding, these grants are awarded to the fire departments to help them expand operations and enhance firefighter safety. “Our firefighters consistently risk their own personal safety to protect us and provide crucial emergency services,” said Wilson. “This grant will help these fire departments enhance their capabilities and training and increase fire safety awareness throughout their respective communities. And at this time of year, I would like to ask all men and women in fire service, to promote and achieve a fire safe Holiday season for all New Mexicans.” The funds come in the eleventh round of grants from the 2002 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, a program created to provide an opportunity for local fire departments to enhance basic fire service delivery and safety. --END--
