A Successful Summer August 07, 2002

Dear Friends, This will be my last postcard for awhile. We are coming up on 90 days before an election and there are rules about how we can communicate with people during that window. I know you have requested that I communicate with you, but in order to abide by a rule that we agree needs to be fixed, I will not be communicating with you via an e-mail update between now and the election. You can still track what`s happening on our web site where we post our news releases and so forth. Bookmark our Newscenter page: http://wilson.house.gov/NewsCenter.asp The House got a lot done in the last week before we adjourned for the August break. We passed a tough corporate accountability bill that will increase penalties for corporate fraud and strengthen oversight of accounting and auditing. We finished a Trade Promotion bill that should help create and keep jobs in New Mexico. According to the Department of Commerce, New Mexico is one of the most trade dependent states in the country. Surprised me too. Almost 100,000 of our jobs produce things for export -- and they are good paying jobs, too. We passed a bill establishing the Homeland Security Department with strengthened roles for Research and Development and Intelligence so that our agencies can work better together to protect us from terrorists. I`ll be here in New Mexico through Labor Day and we are doing a lot of things out and about. Please come by and say hello and let me know your thoughts. Good to be Home,
space
