Albuquerque-NM — Congresswoman Heather Wilson today expressed her disappointment in the Super Bowl half-time show’s display of nudity on public airwaves. Wilson, who last week called for stricter enforcement of broadcast decency standards, says the events leading up to the shocking half-time show will be investigated by the FCC. Wilson looks forward to reviewing the results of that investigation.
“As a mother I’m outraged,” says Wilson, who serves on the Internet and Telecommunications Subcommittee in the U.S. House. “As a lawmaker, I think we need to ask some hard questions about how something like this made it on the air during a show that is tightly scripted from beginning to end and rehearsed for weeks. Surprises during a football game should come on the field, not from rock stars fumbling their clothing.”
“It is hard enough to raise G-rated kids in an X-rated world,” says Wilson. “Families should be able to watch the Super Bowl together without fear of seeing something inappropriate.”
Wilson last week said she is a cosponsor of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2004, which increases penalties for broadcast indecency.
