Wilson Supports Funding for the Troops without Withdrawal Date
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Heather Wilson, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today supported the supplemental Iraq funding bill, which passed the House 280-142. The bill funds the troops without setting an automatic withdrawal date.
“This compromise is a much better bill. It funds the troops without setting deadlines or tying the hands of commanders,” Wilson said.
“With the funding for our military taken care of, we should focus on achieving our vital national interests in Iraq. I will be watching carefully the progress of the Iraqi government toward reconciliation so that they can fully govern themselves.”
The bill includes the Warner amendment establishing benchmarks on the performance of the Iraqi government, and provides for the President to report to Congress on that progress.
