Ivy Tech Receives High Growth Job Training Initiative Grant

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar welcomed news that Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana has been awarded $1 million through the High Growth Job Training Initiative grants from the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA).

Ivy Tech will utilize the grant to develop statewide distance learning energy courses, provide training for incumbent energy industry workers in Management Supervisor Institute certification programs, and design and deliver training for Indiana’s growing biofuels/ethanol industry.

“Our current energy balance is the result of industrial and consumption choices of the past.  Despite our import dependence today, the U.S. is in a strong position to choose a different path, a path toward real energy security.  Success would free future generations of Americans from the energy dilemma that threatens to compromise our security and prosperity,” Lugar said.  “Indiana is poised to reap significant economic opportunities as new and expanding industries employ more Hoosiers in efforts to meet our nation’s energy needs.”

ETA received 172 applications and is awarding $10 million among 11 grantees.
