Press Release of Senator Lugar Lugar applauds Lake Central School Corporation on energy efforts Friday, July 18, 2008 U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar applauded Lake Central School Corporation on their activities to improve the environment and save energy in a letter to Dr. Gerald R. Chabot, Superintendent.   “Your activities to use electric vehicles that do not depend on petroleum and more environmentally-friendly low-sulfur diesel and propane lawnmowers are important demonstrations of leadership in the region,” said Lugar. “Congratulations on taking these steps.”   According to a July 15 Times of Northwest Indiana article, “Mowers Trim Energy Costs,” school officials recently received a grant to purchase three low-polluting propane riding lawn mowers. The mowers reduce emissions by 80 percent and reduce fuel costs because propane is historically 30 percent less expensive than gasoline, according to EnviroGard, the company that makes the propane mowers that Lake Central bought.   Lake Central maintains a list of its energy saving efforts on its website at http://www.lcsc.us/environment.htm.   For more than a decade, Lugar has stressed the strategic importance of energy security and the economic and security risks of dependence on oil. His legislative efforts promote sustainable energy production and use, incentives for renewable fuels like cellulosic ethanol and E85, increased fuel economy in cars and clean coal. The Lugar Energy Initiative at http://lugar.senate.gov/energy highlights the repercussions of America's dangerous dependence on imported oil and provides information on energy legislation introduced by Lugar, commentary by outside experts and information on alternative and renewable energy sources.   ###
