Albuquerque, NM - Congresswoman Heather Wilson and Colonel Jan D. Eakle will co-host a visit to Kirtland for New Mexico business, particularly those that are small or minority and women-owned, interested in doing business with Kirtland Air Force Base and its tenet units. The Conference will be held at the Mountain View Club (formerly the Officers Club) on Thursday, April 19, 2001, with registration beginning at 8:00 AM.
The conference will provide local businesses the opportunity to meet with the eight buying entities at Kirtland Air Force Base and learn about upcoming prime contract and subcontractor opportunities.
“The idea of this visit is to take New Mexico`s small businesses on a ‘trade mission’ very close to home,” said Wilson. “I want to help open doors for New Mexico companies to do business on Kirtland. At one time, I started and grew a small business that served our national labs as well as large defense and scientific companies, so I understand the difficulty of doing business with the federal government.”
According to Joan Fulkerson, Director of Small Business at Kirtland, “During this time of outsourcing and reduced Government spending, the Air Force remains committed to small and disadvantaged businesses and is now trying to get the word out about prime and alternative procurement opportunities. This conference affords the opportunity for minority and women owned businesses to meet many of the key players in the acquisition arena at Kirtland.”
Government participants at the Conference will include 377th Air Base Wing, AFRL Space Vehicles Directorate, AFRL Directed Energy Directorate, Space and Missile Center Test & Evaluation Directorate, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Professional Aerospace Contractors’ Association (PACA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Prime contractors will also be in attendance to discuss subcontracting opportunities.
Anyone interested in attending the conference should contact Congresswoman Wilson`s Albuquerque office at 346-6781.
