| Wilson Announces Dollars for South Side Water Reclamation Project |

| Albuquerque, NM – Congresswoman Heather Wilson today announced $1.36 million in funds to reclaim millions of gallons of water through the South Side Water Reclamation Plant.
“Water is a vital resource, and I’m pleased to announce $1.36 million in federal funds to improve Albuquerque’s infrastructure,” said Wilson, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “Modernizing our facilities pays dividends in a cleaner environment, usable water and growing economy. This plant treats and reclaims millions of gallons of water for other important uses like irrigation, allowing more of our best water to be reserved for drinking and cooking.”
The Reclamation Project includes filtering, disinfecting and distributing 5.74 million gallons per day (MGD) or approximately 10% of the currently treated wastewater at the Southside Water Reclamation Plant (SWRP). The Plant currently re-uses 1.1 million gallons per day of treated water for projects like landscaping. The project is now under design with construction scheduled to start in late 2004.
The reclaimed water will be for non-drinking purposes such as landscape irrigation in Southeast Albuquerque, reducing dependency on the City`s deep groundwater aquifer.
Primary users of the non-drinking treated water will include Isotopes Park, the Puerto del Sol golf course, the Albuquerque Sunport, Bullhead Regional Recreational Complex and the Southside Water Reclamation Plant.
The funds were included in the Energy and Water Appropriations for next year.
