Lawmaker Called for Examination of New Reports
Albuquerque – Congresswoman Heather Wilson last week called for a hearing, and today announced that the House Armed Services Committee has scheduled a hearing on new Abu Ghraib reports.
On August 24, Wilson called for a hearing in the Committee to examine the findings of the Schlesinger and Fay reports on Abu Ghraib. Both reports were released last week.
Wilson sent a letter to Congressman Duncan Hunter, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, requesting a hearing to examine the two reports. Chairman Hunter has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, September 9, after members of Congress return.
The House Armed Services Committee has previously held hearings and briefings regarding Abu Ghraib and an earlier report by General Taguba.
“These new reports address some of the systemic and policy issues that were beyond the scope of General Taguba’s report,” Wilson said.
