Building Jobs April 28, 2003

Dear Friends,

The recession is over, but the recovery is not as strong as any of us would like. And as long as there are New Mexicans wanting a job but unable to find one, we still have work to do.

We will have another economic stimulus bill when we return to the Congress of somewhere between $350 and $550 billion over ten years. Within it, I think our priorities should be accelerating the reduction in personal income taxes, expanding the child tax credit from $600 to $1000 per year, and tax changes that help small business create jobs -- like allowing owners to "expense" more of their equipment purchases in the first year.

There are things we are working on directly to help grow jobs in New Mexico too -- like improving our major roads.

Heather speaks at a press conference at the Double Eagle II Airport to announce federal funding to reconstruct the Pase del Volcan interchange leading from I-40 to the facility.

Last week we announced federal funding for two interstate projects that will help attract and keep businesses in two of Albuquerque`s epicenters for job creation: Uptown and the Double Eagle Airport. Good infrastructure helps grow jobs.

It`s good to be home,
