BROOKLYN, New York –Five-hundred seniors are expected to be fed at the 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner, hosted by Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY) and Assemblyman Darryl C. Towns (D-54th A.D.).
As a result of rising food, rent and utility costs, 1out of 6 seniors in New York City live below the federal poverty line. For them, the lack of available meals is a challenge as they struggle to make ends meet. In Brooklyn, the problem is worsened by the steep increase in the number of people being fed at 86% of Brooklyn’s food pantries. As a result, many seniors are faced with increasing health risks, not only as a result of the inadequate supply of food but, because they are poor, live alone or are homebound.
This Thanksgiving Day, like over the 22 years past, Rep. Towns and Assemblyman Towns will provide seniors with a hearty Thanksgiving meal, complete with fellowship and a host of prizes.
