Washington, DC - Congresswoman Heather Wilson today outlined the Transportation programs for which she will seek funding this year in a letter to the House Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee. Her top priority is development at Double Eagle II Airport so that it can be ready for a potential aircraft manufacturing operation planned by Eclipse Aviation and increases in general aviation traffic. Eclipse Aviation plans to move its operations to Double Eagle when full production begins, eventually bringing some 2,000 jobs to the area.
Wilson’s priorities include:
$2 million to upgrade the existing I-40 & Paseo del Volcan Interchange and Access Road to Double Eagle II Airport: Funding is needed to rebuild and improve the existing 40-year-old interchange and upgrade 5 miles of access road to Double Eagle Airport. The project will reconstruct and widen bridges and improve intersections with arterial streets.
$2 million for the construction of a Control Tower at the Double Eagle II Airport: The Double Eagle II airport expects operations to increase from 41,000 to 110,000 operations per year. A new control tower will improve air traffic safety at this growing airport, which is expected to house an aircraft manufacturing facility and handle more corporate general aviation aircraft in the future.
Other projects for which Wilson requested funding are:
$11.5 million for the acquisition and construction of Isleta Boulevard from Bridge Boulevard to Arenal Road
$19 million for the Intersate-40/Loisiana Interchange Project
$10 million for the West Loop Corridor Project
$300,000 for the Alvorado Transportation Center Phase II Project
$2 million to replace Revenue Vehicles that have met or exceeded the FTA’s service life standards
$1.5 million for the Unser Transportation Corridor project
$2 million for the Eubank Boulevard Widening Project
$2.5 million for the Interstate 40/Coors Boulevard Interchange
$ 4 million for the Interstate 40/Interstate 25 “Big-I” Interchange
$8.5 million for the Gibson Transportation Corridor
$2 million to obtain services, hardware and software for the back-file conversion and capture of all vital construction project information of New Mexico State Highways
$800,000 for the Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) Truck Driving and Training Simulation System Program
