Wilson to address over 300 Community Leaders at Annual State of the District Address June 15, 2001

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Congresswoman Heather Wilson will address more than 300 local community and business leaders at the third annual “State of the District” address on Monday during a luncheon at the Sheraton Uptown.

Wilson will use the address to highlight the fast start that Congress has been off to in the first six months of the year. Having passed the largest tax relief package in a generation and nearing completion on major education reform legislation the current Congress is on pace to be one of the most productive in the last decade. Wilson will also address the need for a long-term national energy strategy.

Wilson is a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and is a member of the recently formed House Energy Action Team charged with guiding comprehensive energy legislation through the House this summer.

“We have accomplished much in the first six months of the year,” said Wilson. “We’ve passed real tax relief to keep the economy growing and let Americans keep more of what they earn. We are finishing work on the most sweeping education reform legislation in 35 years. Now, we are turning to health care, seeking to add a prescription drug benefit to Medicare and meeting the nation’s energy needs.”

The third annual State of the District event is hosted by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Commerce and Industry, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. More than 300 community leaders are expected to attend this year, shattering last year’s attendance record.
