The non-profit "National Women`s History Project" is honoring six women during the month of March, when we celebrate National Women`s History Month. Astronaut Ellen Ochoa is one of those honorees.

The honorees this year were chosen from a wide range of women whose lives and work exemplify both courage and vision. They share the special quality of fearless tenacity, which has made them role models for all of us.

You can nominate a New Mexico woman to be recognized by Congresswoman Heather Wilson during National Women`s History Month, or you can first read more about it.

As an astronaut and researcher of advanced optical information systems, Ellen Ochoa flew her first shuttle mission in 1993 as a Mission Specialist with the Discovery crew, conducting atmospheric and solar studies in order to better understand the effect of solar activity on the Earth`s climate and environment. The first Hispanic woman to be named as an astronaut, she has logged over 500 hours in space.

Ochoa, also the first Hispanic woman in space, serves as a role model to all students to try their best in all they do. In her role as a NASA Astronaut, she makes time to visit schools to encourage all students to study hard and not be afraid of success.

You can nominate a New Mexico woman to be recognized by Congresswoman Heather Wilson during National Women`s History Month.
